The Center for Traditional Music and Dance is proud to partner with the Bronx Music Heritage Center, Kichwa Hatari NY and Odelia Music to present La Patronal, a unique brass band rooted in the traditions of the ‘fiestas populares’ or ‘patronales” from the Andes in South America.

After their Manhattan debut on Tuesday March 26, we will head up to the Bronx and continue the party raymi style with a huayno and cumbia dance workshop, Kichwa Hatari Radio, and live musical performance!

La Patronal members are direct descendants of rural musicians from Peru. They use this knowledge of folk culture in combination with their formal music studies to preserve their heritage while also bringing it to contemporary audiences. Their lively performances encourage public participation and dancing with contagious percussion, vibrant brass and winds.

This program is presented as part of Made in NYC: Celebrating 50 Years with the Center for Traditional Music and Dance.

Throughout March 2019 Made in NYC will shares stories and pay homage to CTMD’s 20+ years of work with Peruvian and Andean communities throughout the city. This special artist residency with La Patronal also nods to CTMD’s venerable history of working in partnership with local communities to bring world renowned traditional music groups to NYC and beyond, thereby spearheading new field work and community organizing initiatives.

This event is part of CTMD's Sustaining Cultures Program Made in NYC.
