The Center for Traditional Music and Dance is pleased to partner with Ensemble Shashmaqam and Da-Mikelle II to present a traditional Bukharian Choikhona, or Central Asian Tea House in Forest Hills, Queens.

Join us for a delicious Bukharian lunch, tea service and live concert by Ensemble Shashmaqam with special guest artists!

Did you know that Queens, NY is home to the largest Bukharian Jewish community in the U.S., and that the vast majority of the community reside in Rego Park and Forest Hills? Since the 1980s, Bukharian jews have been migrating to NYC from Central Asian countries like Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, bringing with them a unique set of traditions and customs that tell stories of the Jewish diaspora. Hop on a quick train ride to Queens Blvd. and tour these vibrant neighborhoods with a fantastic pit stop at Da-Mikelle restaurant for lunch and music.
