A high profile traditional Sri Lankan dance showcase in the heart of NYC, this boundary-breaking program debuts original choreography and traditional renderings by top level dancers from NYC and Sri Lanka, providing a platform for a transnational collaboration that goes beyond basic stage performance. The program tells stories of transmission and translation from ritual to stage, guru to student, and homeland to diaspora via myths and narratives with strong female protagonists such as meditations on the 18 wannamas (epic tales that make up the kandyan dance repertoire) and low country goddesses.
