The Tree of Envy is this year’s magical story of West African village life in Ivory Coast. With dynamic dance, drums, masks, drama, song, chants, ritual, and explosive spectacle, Kekene XIII – The Gathering 2019, our annual event, brings enchantment and joy for all. Join Kotchegna Dance Company, a renowned international corps, and guest master performers from Ivory Coast as they take us on an exciting journey of West African village traditions, culture, and beliefs through pulsing percussion and colorful costumes.

Come see what envy does to a wife in her village. Watch how she causes trouble and hardship for her family and community when she exacts her revenge. Follow the villagers as they figure out, through ritual, sacred beliefs, and village customs, to solve the painful mystery and restore balance. Be lifted as the village finds its way back to joy and celebration of life. This evening promises to restore us all, with its message of love and unity.
