The Center for Traditional Music and Dance is pleased to partner with the 4th Annual May Sumak: Quichwa Film Showcase for a special Made In NYC sponsored reception.
May Sumak is an initiative led by Andean-based communities and organizations working from the values of strengthening Andean self-representation of stories and histories with diverse audiences. The festival inspires Andean peoples of the diaspora to harness the power of their own experiences through media making. From this foundation of culture and community, May Sumak manifests as a traveling film showcase featuring three days of Quechua/Kichwa film screenings, discussions, and workshops revolving around Quechua/Kichwa in the Americas.
CTMD is pleased to support this mission through our Made in NYC Sustaining Cultures program, celebrating 50 years of traditional music and dance in NYC’s immigrant communities. Please join us for an intimate reception following film screenings and discussion of the Andean diaspora in Abya Yala. Reception includes rare danzaq tijeras performance and light refreshments.
