Join us for our next installment of Made in NYC and continue to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Center for Traditional Music and Dance (CTMD)! This time with Olas de Bomba y Plena, we experience the intergenerational performance of Afro-Puerto Rican music in NYC with the venerable Los Pleneros de la 21 and Redobles de Cultura live from Pregones Theater in the South Bronx.
An interactive performance and cultural conversation moderated by Dr. Cesar Colon Montijo will explore Nuyorican community history, diasporic sounds, transmission of tradition and next generation practitioners gaining momentum within the community and beyond. In honor of Puerto Rican history month we highlight some of Bomba and Plena’s greats, along with their disciples, in this live broadcast event.
Made in NYC programming shares CTMD’s history of promoting and advocating for the traditional arts of immigrant New York that have now become integral parts of the city’s soundscape.
