CTMD Celebrates 51st Anniversary with Heritage Sunday: Made in NYC

For this 51st celebration of CTMD, we called upon some of its newest artists to join us in celebrating at Lincoln Center, Hearst Plaza. July 28th, was an afternoon of eclectic, energetic music reflecting the diversity of New York City’s neighborhoods. Among the guests were Sri Lankan dance ensemble, The Sri Lankan Dance Academy of NY, klezmer artist Michael Winograd and the Honorable Mentshn, Redobles de Cultura, and Peruvian artists Inkarayku.

“A true love letter to immigrant New York, Heritage Sunday 2019 was all we hoped it would be. What a way to close out our Made In NYC summer program series and continue to tell these fascinating stories of next generation traditions in our City that never sleeps. Many thanks to our performing ensembles, Redobles de Cultura, Sri Lankan Dance Academy of NY, Michael Winograd and the Honorable Mentshn, and Inkarayku for carrying the torch of traditional music and dance in their respective communities and for bringing such creativity to the work of making increasingly New York formed traditions come alive for generations to come. A big shout out to our MC Ed Morales and to Lincoln Center Out of Doors for championing our mission of creating diverse platforms for folklife around the city. As the saying goes, ‘NYC will MAKE you, whether you like it or not.’ says former Director of Public Programming, Naomi Sturm-Wijesinghe.
