Visit to the Sri Lankan Art & Cultural Museum NY

As part of the Center for Traditional Music and Dance’s ongoing partnership with the New School Eugene Lang College’s Civic Liberal Arts initiative, Global Voices is a recurring course offering, supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Spring semester 2018’s course focused on community-based culture work and the vital music and dance traditions practiced in NYC’s Sri Lankan community. On Friday May 11, 2018 course instructors Naomi Sturm (CTMD Director of Public Programs) and Evan Rapport (Associate Professor, The Arts, Eugene Lang College) together with their students visited the newly renovated Sri Lankan Art & Cultural Museum of NY on Staten Island. It was a lovely afternoon that included lunch at the infamous Lakruwana restaurant (Best Curry Buffett NYC 2016) followed by a private tour of the museum with owner and curator Julia Wigesinghe.
