About Manding Performing Arts
Manding Performing Arts is a dedicated group of West African griots, jali’s (Mandinka), jeliw (Malinke), gewel (wolof), or gaolo (fula), focused on entertainment and edutainment of the West African history and culture through music and story-telling.
Jalikunda was founded in 2019 by Malang Jobarteh, a Senegalese jali who plays the kora. Jalikunda also receives technical assistance from the Center for Traditional Music and Dance through its Sharing Traditions program.
