After premiering our first Soorya NYC festival in 2018, a landmark program bringing together diverse practitioners from the region’s #srilankan community with a focus on inter-ethnic peacebuilding and reconciliation, we launched the Soorya Jam as part of several programs under CTMD’s Sustaining Cultures Initiative, Soorya NYC for 2022.

CTMD Family and Friends came together at The Soorya Jam on a chilly Autumn evening at Maker Park in Staten Island in October. Starting off with a Carnatic presentation followed by Kandyan percussive ensemble performance. Artists then joined together for an improv session which our audiences were so excited to jump into!
