CTMD co-founders Ethel Raim and Martin Koenig join CTMD Executive Director Pete Rushefsky with the American Folklife Center’s Director of Research John Fenn for a conversation about CTMD’s 50 years of work as advocates for the traditional arts of immigrant communities in New York City. The panel discussion includes presentations by the media arts organization Appalshop, whose founders are also celebrating their 50th anniversary of cultural work and by activists associated with DC’s Drum and Spear Bookstore, a hub for the black consciousness and civil rights activism. The symposium is free to all attendees, but please note that seating is limited.

NEA National Heritage Fellowship Awards

CTMD is honored to announce that our co-founder and artistic director emeritus Ethel Raim will be receiving the 2018 Bess Lomax Hawes National Heritage Fellowship during a week of celebrations in Washington DC this month. Other NEA honorees this year include pioneering Texas R&B guitarist Barbara Lynn, Palestinian embroiderer Feryal Abbasi-Ghnaim, and Rodeo tailor Manuel Cuevas, among others.
