Alhaji Papa Susso

Alhaji Papa Susso is one of the first jali/griot to break into the North American world music scene back in the 80s. Since then he has continued to promote Gambian music, language, and heritage in the United States as a touring artist and as a community figure at local ceremonies. Shot in the living room of Susso’s nephew, Malang Jobarteh, this episode features him discussing his personal story, musical practice, the kora instrument, and the importance of traditional music for the Gambian community.
