Gilbert Mansour

Lebanese percussionist Gilbert Mansour is a master of the dumbek and the riq. Starting his early education with Arabic classical music, he soon began exploring Latin music on the congas and flamenco percussion on the cajon. A Berklee graduate, he currently tours again–after a long pause during the pandemic’s early days–with the National Arab Orchestra, Sonia Olla, and Ismael Fernandez, among others. In this episode, Gilbert discusses his musical upbringing, the basics of the riq, dumbek, and Arabic percussion, and his current project Rōōtes through which he currently pursues his eclectic interests.
