Harold Rodriguez

Colombian-American accordionist Harold Rodriguez is one of NYC’s preeminent performers of vallenato, a Colombian folk music genre from the Caribbean coast. From the Zion Presbyterian Church in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, where he serves as music director, he performs a selection of favorite vallenatos, describes the basics and history of the music, and shares his personal story of commitment to the musical tradition. Discussing his own musical response to COVID-19, he illustrates how he applies vallenato’s vibrant communal aspects to new social contexts.
