Julia Gutiérrez-Rivera and Friends present “A Taste of NuyoRican Bomba: From Traditional to Spiritual to Resistance Music.” This amazing group of Nuyorican musicians includes Julia L. Gutiérrez-Rivera (Los Pleneros de la 21), Víctor Pablo, Camilo Molina Gaetán, Nelson Matthew González and Juan Gerena. Together they perform and discuss the meaning and sound of Afro-Puerto Rican bomba’s percussive, vocal, and dance elements. Alongside insights into the history and currency of bomba, they will present a range of traditional and original songs and share personal stories of responses and resilience in these difficult times.
