Born and raised in the borough of Staten Island, home to the largest Sri Lankan community in the U.S., Medhini Lokuhewa has played a large role in her community as a Kandyan dancer. For the past 13 years, she has been a dancer at the Sri Lankan Dance Academy of NY, a non-profit organization that focuses on preserving the culture and heritage of Sri Lankan musical arts in America.
