Medhini Lokuhewa

Born and raised in the borough of Staten Island, home to the largest Sri Lankan community in the U.S., Medhini Lokuhewa has played a large role in her community as a Kandyan dancer. For the past 13 years, she has been a dancer at the Sri Lankan Dance Academy of NY, a non-profit organization that focuses on preserving the culture and heritage of Sri Lankan musical arts in America. In this episode, Lokuhewa discusses Sri Lankan dance traditions and explains how through highs, and lows, dance has guided her in life.
