Mother-Daughter with the Sri Lankan Dance Academy

Also part of the Soorya NYC Sustaining Cultures Initiative, “Mother-Daughter” presents in conversation two generations of dancers from the Sri Lankan Dance Academy of New York based on Staten Island. Mother-daughter duos Tanya DeSilva (founder) and Charya DeSilva (vice president) along with Dhammika Navinna (manager) and Sachindara Navinna speak in depth but informally about the founding, history, and impact of this nationally recognized CTMD Touring Artist group. They also review their personal dance evolutions over the past twenty years that SLDA has provided a space for Kandyan dance, drumming, and community in addition to reflecting on the Kandyan dance industry and the importance of passing on Sri Lankan traditions to the next generation.
