Shot in a bedroom-turned-studio, this program features Yamini Kalluri, an Indian dance prodigy, master of classical Kuchipudi dance, and dance educator. Raised in Hyderabad for most of her life, she is now a Brooklynite seeking to expand her own creative horizons as well as those of fellow South Asian dancers by recently founding Kritya School of Dance, which is dedicated to helping South Asian dancers who are similarly based in North America or Europe. In this program, she discusses her personal story, demonstrates the basics of Kuchipudi dance, discusses the struggles of South Asian dancers in the West, and introduces the Kritya School’s mission.
