LP21 troupe get together in the South Bronx at BMHC to do what they like best: play plena and bomba, talk about the music, and then some. LP21’s ensemble members will greet, guide and engage the audience through back to back dynamic and interactive sessions on the Afro-Puerto Rican musical forms, plena, and bomba. The ensemble will perform emblematic songs and will demonstrate and talk about the chants, dance, and drumming components, while they will also place these genres within a historical and social context. This episode was created in partnership with the Flurry Festival (www.flurryfestival.org) and the Bronx Music Heritage Center (www.thisisbronxmusic.org/).
